Former West Yorkshire road race champion Mick Day (Batley CC - Bill Hargreaves ) has made an impressive start to the season in the first road race of 1979 organised by East Bradford CC at Shelf. The start was delayed for an hour because of black ice and the race was shortened from 60 to 38 miles. It was the "See How Fit You Are" road race and riders from Yorkshire clubs showed themselves fitter than the rest.
