The final matches of the season were played at the same venue as last season's final matches. Last year the teams won the league title here and all of the Ilkley contingent were hopeful of the same result this year.

The Ilkley Manager Andy Webb told his team that it was his day and 'lets make it happen', he wasn't to be disappointed, although he was made to sweat in this match.

In the opening minutes of the game Ilkley looked keen to win. Nick Jenkinson made an early impact with a long range shot which was only just wide. Shortly after, George Gamble had a great chance when his audacious volley tested the 'keeper.

Kirk Deighton were on the back foot for much of the first-half but in a rare break they were foiled by Ed Brown in the Ilkley goal. From Ed's clearance William Driver made a deep foray into the Kirk Deighton half, he then laid the ball on perfectly for Fred Atkinson whose shot was only just held by the 'keeper.

Ilkley continued to press and even though they forced a series of corners, during which an Oliver Moulton shot was only just tipped over, they could not find the breakthrough they craved. Just before half-time Kirk Deighton again asserted some pressure but Joel Harrison was solid at the back, the Ilkley title challenge was still on track with the scores level at half time.

The pattern of the first-half was repeated in the second, with Ilkley making most of the chances. In a goalmouth scramble George Gamble almost poked the ball home, then Nick Jenkinson again went close from a free-kick at the edge of the area.

Ilkley would not allow Kirk Deighton to see much of the ball, both Roam Hamilton and Nick Jenkinson had chances which could not be converted.

Finally Kirk Deighton got a few chances, but they all came to nothing with Will and Joel in commanding form. Ed Brown made the save of the match when he tipped over a fierce shot.

William Driver was all over the pitch and made a couple of vital interceptions. He followed this up with a great effort on goal that could have broken the deadlock but as the closing minutes approached it looked as though a 0-0 draw was on the cards.

It was then that Ilkley were surprised by an opportunist goal from Kirk Deighton, against the run of play, a good finish ending off a quick break. George Gamble looked sure to score in the dying seconds but it wasn't to be and the match ended in disappointment, when, on the balance of play, the lads should have won comfortably.

Ilkley went into the final match in celebratory mood after hearing that the Yellows victory in the other game had given them the league title for the second year in a row.

In the opening minutes alone, Oliver Moulton had three efforts on goal that could easily have broken the deadlock, Fred Atkinson hit the bar and William Driver had a great shot saved by the 'keeper. But the team didn't have long to wait until they scored their first goal of the day.

The ball falling kindly to Oliver Moulton, who tucked it home, celebrating in usual style with the production of his mask.

William Driver was a rock in defence and made an amazing run, from inside his own half, which almost resulted in the second goal.

Kirk Deighton hadn't made an appearance in the Ilkley half but when they finally did the scores were level, due to a piece of good fortune, when a sliced effort looped over Ed Brown's head and ended up in the net.

The Ilkley response to the fluke goal was instant with William Driver linking up with Fred Atkinson, when the ball was returned to Will he neatly tucked it home. Kirk Deighton then had their best spell of the match, forcing Ed Brown into a number of saves, one of which demanded a double save that kept his team in front.

In the second-half Matty Webb, who always looks comfortable in defence, made a couple of great interceptions. He followed these up with a great headed clearance and the Ilkley lead was intact but not for long.

A defensive mix up gave Kirk Deighton their second goal and the scores were level again. Roam Hamilton was making his physical presence felt and he hit the bar with a good effort.

Not to be denied, just a couple minutes later he scored a very good goal and the Ilkley lead was restored. The match was been played at a fierce pace and Joel Harrison had to make a couple of vital interceptions to keep Rangers at bay. George Gamble was giving 100 per cent as usual.

His name was soon to appear on the scoresheet when he coolly slotted the ball home from just inside the area. He nearly doubled his tally moments later when he ran from the half-way line only to be thwarted by the Rangers 'keeper.

Now Ilkley must have thought they didn't need a defence, because there was no one to be seen, when the ball found its way to a Rangers' forward and he was unopposed in closing the gap to one goal.

Joel Harrison tried his best to give Ilkley another goal but his fierce shot was tipped over.

He had another attempt moments later and his shot rebounded to Oliver Moulton, who put away the loose ball for his second of the match.

The match was made safe a couple of minutes later when both Fred Atkinson and Nick Jenkinson found the back of the net and a final scoreline of 7-3 ended a long successful season for the Ilkley Under-10's.

Thanks must go to Andy Webb and Andy Norton for their dedication and hard work throughout the year, all this paid off with their teams taking the league title again.
