THE battering winds over the weekend meant a miserable Mother's Day for fledgling business Eight.
The delicatessen and catering shop at the junction of Swadford Street and Coach Street had to close as tiles and stone crashed down from its roof on Saturday morning.
Richard Newall, who opened the deli with his wife, Sally, in November, said: "The likelihood of it hitting someone was high because it's a busy corner."
The business had to remain closed on Sunday, meaning that Mr Newall had to cancel table bookings for Mother's Day.
He estimates that the incident will have cost him around £2,000.
There was further drama down Broughton Road when the chimney pot at Herriots Hotel came away from the roof. The road was then closed for around 45 minutes.
