South Craven School Under-16s rugby union side went unbeaten at an annual 10-a-side tournament to lift the trophy.

The team won all their four games at the invitational tournament at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield.

Their toughest match of the tournament came in their opening game against Pocklington Grammar School, which they won 12-5.

Further successes against Outwood Grange, 22-0, and hosts QEGS, 19-0, set up what was expected to be the final against Bradford Grammar School.

But with Bradford losing their third game, a draw would have wrapped up the tournament. Instead the team put in their best performance of the tournament with a 31-12 victory.

Coach Graham Lightfoot was delighted with the way his team performed.

He said: "They started off with a very tough game, which we won, and then we just got better with every game. They were superb."
