Underbank 14 Keighley Town 2 - (Match abandoned)

Keighley match at Underbank was abandoned after Paul Scott suffered a broken leg early in the second half.

Early exchanges showed it was going to be an error riddled game with the ball hard to control and the gale force wind blowing across the pitch made sure that anything other than a short pass would be wayward. Underbank ran in three tries in the first half and managed to convert one of them. With the wind behind them the home side used it well while it took Town their set of six to get into the opposition's half.

Alan Muff, Craig Morphet and Andy stokes were on fine form and Danny Barrett had his first start as hooker for the first team. Winger Tony Metcalfe got bundled into touch before he could cross the whitewash for Town and Andy Stokes had a try disallowed shortly before half time making the score 14-0 at the break.

Steve Jones came on for the injured Tony Metcalfe, scrum half Sean Hudson was a straight swap for Richard Shaw and prop forward James Benn replaced Rocky McNulty. With the wind behind Keighley started to dominate and won a penalty in front of the posts to cliam their first points.

Keighley continued to press Underbank's line but their scrambling defence thwarted Town's attack.

Disaster struck and the game had to be abandoned after Paul Scott, who had just started to get back into the first team on a regular basis, broke his leg.

The final score was 14-2 at the time of the injury and it will stand. Everyone wishes Paul a speedy recovery.

Town are at home to Crigglestone all blacks this week (2.30pm kick off).

Silsden Park Rangers 40

Hollinwood 20

Silsden ran out comfortable winners in a game played in tremendous winds restricting the majority of the play to the middle of the park.

They opened the scoring early in the game with a try from Mark Adams after he collected a ball to run in under the posts. In the difficult conditions Andy Bowness did well to add the conversion as he continued to do for all but one of Silsden's tries.

Powerful play from forwards, Mark Stott, Martyn Fryers, Mark Ives and Neil Jordan kept the pressure on the visitors and was rewarded with a short pass from Jon Gwilliam to Fryers whoo crash over the line.

Man of the Match Fryers was also involved in the next try as he made inroads in to the Hollinwood defence and laid the ball off to Andy Bowness who carried the ball 50 yards to score under the posts.

With Silsden 18 points in the lead Hollinwood started to make sustained attacks and great work from Jack Reeves, Ives, Jordan and top tackler John Williams kept the Oldham side at bay for a time, however second rower Kevin Collins eventually found the gap to open Hollinwood's tally just before half time.

Adams scored his second early int he second half and despite having a comfortable lead Silsden kept up the pressure. The next try came from a Gwilliam's kick towards the Hollinwood line which the defence were unable to control in the swirling winds, substitute prop James Doherty was on hand to collect and score his first try for the club.

Silsden continued to attack but Hollinwood's Mark Ainsworth intercepted and ran the length of the field to score under the posts. Rangers didn't let the score interrupt their game and a well timed pass from Gwilliam allowed Jordan to power through the remaining defence.

Another Hollinwood try narrowed the gap slightly but Silsden came back with a try from Williams who dived on a loose ball behind the Hollinwood posts. As the weather deteriorated Hollinwood scored a final consolation try.
