ARCHER Renee Metcalfe has been crowned Yorkshire Champion - just over two years after taking up the sport.
Renee, who works at Airedale Springs, Haworth, won the Yorkshire Indoor Championship at Wakefield with consistently accurate shooting.
Using a high-tech 'compound' bow, which uses pulley wheels to reduce the strength needed to pull the string, and carbon fibre arrows, she outclassed the opposition.
"I was delighted to win, it's my first major success," she said. Renee got hooked on the sport after trying archery during a camping holiday to France with her husband, Ian. Back in England they joined the Aire Valley Archers club, which meets at St Ives, Bingley, and Sandylands Recreation Ground, Skipton, and Renee discovered she had natural ability.
"I had wanted to have a go for a long time, but after shooting a bow and arrow on holiday I was hooked," she said.
