Victoria Rangers' cruel luck continued to the very last with a 20-19 defeat at Queensbury ensuring they will be relegated from the Premier Division at the end of the season.

The Vics took the lead after 15 minutes when young scrum half Leonard Dalladay scooped up a loose ball in his own half to race to the whitewash.

Bury levelled matters when Darren Brown crossed but forward Kenny Smith playing out of position in the centre stormed over for another fine effort and when Karl Roe added the extras the Rangers changed ends 10-4 up.

Brown once again showed a clean pair of heels on the restart and centre Gareth Hobson quickly followed leaving loose forward Paul Drake to slot over the conversion to put Bury in front 14-10.

Roe kept the pot boiling with a drop goal and a penalty to reduce the arrears but Drake continued to punish the visitors with a further three penalties and Bury looked home and dry.

With just two minutes left on the clock, up popped the Vics captain Mick Sigston to fire in under the posts. Roe added the simple extra two but it was too late in the day to prevent Bury taking the spoils.

Birkenshaw lost 36-18 at Westgate Redoubt and can have no complaints after trailing 20-0 at the half-time whistle.

They rolled up their sleeves in the second half with two cracking tries from centre Ian Tobin - both converted by wingman Matt Honeysett to give themselves hope at 20-12.

A Westgate interception try put paid to their chances and their only consolation was a try from powerful second row forward Paul Bancroft with Honeysett on target once again.

Division One strugglers Odsal Sedbergh looked to be down and out when they trailed visitors Dodworth 34-0 after an hour's play.

But Sedge hit back in spectacular fashion with the pick of the tries coming from Alistair Swanston and centre Gary Priestley to peg the score back to 34-32 - only to run out of time when a win looked on the cards. Queensbury A made sure of Division Two survival with a 40-14 home win over Hollinwood.

Bury's man-of-the-match Brett Marriott scored a try and kicked six conversions and loose forward Danny Holmes posted a hat-trick.

Full back Richard Batty, prop Chris Cannon and hooker Neil Hobson joined the try spree as Bury dominated the final quarter.

Wyke continued their excellent Division Four run with a sparkling 26-7 win at Keighley Albion A.

Prop forward Ben Cousen gave a virtuoso performance in the stand off berth freeing centre Liam Hay to score a hat-trick.

Mark Frith also crossed and veteran Howard Carr kicked three goals to add to his solo touchdown.

Thornton only need to win their last match to gain promotion from Division Five following the 46-10 success at Baliff Bridge.

Wingman John Belcher was unstoppable with four top-class efforts and John Cadamartrai (2), Simon Hall, Rob Cockroft and Harvey Thornton joined him in the try feast. Hooker Darren Ellerton kicked five conversions.

Division Six Wyke A won 48-4 at Hoyland A. Andrew Patchett starred with a try and six conversions and Michael Wormald, Ben Stirk, Paul Phillips (2), Warren Pitman (2), Rick Spense and Andy Burd joined him on the scoreboard.

Injury-hit Thornton A lost 40-0 at home to West Craven Warriors. Joel and Lee Stafford were their best players on a hectic afternoon.
