Buxton 6 Eccleshill 1

Eccleshill United slumped to their second heavy defeat in three games in the Northern Counties East Premier Division when four late goals slanted the scoreline in favour of Buxton.

The Derbyshire outfit ran away with the game in the last ten minutes despite not having it all their own way up until then. In fact United had looked set for a comeback of their own, after trailing 2-0 at the break.

Buxton took the lead through Jose Miranda in the 23rd minute and Jon Froggatt netted their second seven minutes before the interval.

United eventually hit back in some style. Ben Hardy seized possession deep inside his own half in the 76th minute. He set off on a run that took him the well into Buxton territory before lashing a 30-yard piledriver past the home keeper.

At that stage United would have been good value for an away draw against one of the teams seeking promotion to the UniBond and Buxton were tense.

However, the late blitz was just around the corner.

Ten minutes from time Leon Wainman grabbed the third and less than two minutes later Miranda added his second to put the game well and truly out of United's reach.

What the visitors did not need was the late brace from Buxton debutant James Tevondale that shattered their confidence. In his first start for the club, after signing from UniBond Premier Division outfit Hucknall Town, Tevondale waited a long time for his first goal.

But after finding the net in the 86th minute he doubled his personal tally in the penultimate minute to leave the Bradford side with a long journey home to reflect on their dented pride.
