Keighley 2nd XV 20 Wharfedale Development XV 0 - Keighley had too much experience for the Wharfedale team which as usual battled to the very end.

The guile of Johnny Harrison at stand off and the ellusive running of Warren Knowles from full back kept Keighley one step ahead.

Harrison did not start well missing the first of his three touch finding kicks, but he settled his nerves with a well struck penalty to open the scoring.

Keighley were having problems hanging onto the ball in the rucks and mauls and could not maintain any consistent momentum. Both wingmen Chris Watts and John Curry were given chances but resolute defence kept them out. Keighley's forwards finally managed to build up a series of attacks, and when the ball was moved out Harrison slipped the ball back inside to the backrow forward John Gibson who broke the final tackle to score under the posts. Harrison had no problems adding the extra points.

Keighley were dominant inthe scrum and Peter Schofield, back after eight weeks on the side line with a broken shoulder, was causing problems for the Wharfedale team with some telling runs. Watts was put away with space to work with down the left wing but a last ditch tackle denied him a try.

At half time Schofield was replaced by Morgan Bailey who was soon in the action with driving runs. Harrison put Keighley further ahead with his second penalty.

Evan Griffin and Jack Mcphail made some barging runs and Mark Lister began to dig deep into mauls to win ball that in the first half Wharfedale had been taking. Lister's tenacity seemed to rub off on the rest of the forwards and this gave Woodwiss more ball to feed out to Harrison who was using all his experience to bring both his backs and forwards into the game.

The introduction of Danny Horne into the backs in the last twenty minutes immediately had effect. Harrison set the movement off from the half way line after the forwards had won a ruck. Phil Hannah fed to Horne who immediately injected some pace into the game as the cover tacklers came across he cleverly slipped the pass out of the back of his hand to Knowles who drew the final man to give the scoring pass to Curry who went over for a well worked try. Harrison struck a good kick from wide out to give Keighley a 20-point lead.

Keighley's backs looked as if they could add to their lead but again Wharfedale turned up the wick. They introduced a new very experienced prop who started to cause problems for Keighley in both the scrums and in the loose. Horne and Hannah were combining well and a half break by Hannah and a short pass to Horne looked as if Keighley would score again, but the referee judged the pass forward and blew the final whistle.
