Staff and children from a nursery attended by Chlo Bibby raised £150 for charity last week.

Eleven-month-old Chlo, of Prior Street, died last month from a rare muscular wasting disease.

As a tribute to her, Cavendish Lodge Day Nursery, on Back Cavendish Street, Keighley, put on Pink Week to raise money for Martin House, the children's hospice in Wetherby which Chlo attended regularly.

Manager Brenda Moon said: "Chlo was a lovely little girl and will be very much missed by the staff and children at the nursery.

"We thought we would do something in memory of her -- pink was her favourite colour -- and at the same time raise some money for a charity close to her family's heart."

Throughout the week, staff and children at the nursery paid £1 every time they came to the nursery in pink and 25p whenever they wore pink accessories. The boys wore red.

Chlo's grandmother, Yvonne, said: "It's really nice of them to think to do something like that. It's great how even with Chlo gone the donations and events are still taking place."

Yvonne and Chlo's 23-year-old mother, Leanne, will be going to Martin House in the next few weeks to present staff with all the money they have collected through various events.

More than £200 was collected for Airedale Hospital's Children's Ward at Chlo's funeral. When the family went down to the ward to present the money, they took along dozens of Easter eggs for the children, which had been donated by a local shop.

Leanne is also looking to create a 'Chlo Cupboard' on the ward, which will be of direct benefit to parents who have to stay on the ward for long periods of time with their children.

Already a number of items including a tea set, mugs and videos have been purchased. Other items will be purchased as need is identified.

Ward manager Jo Newman said: "We are very grateful for this kind gesture in memory of Chlo and we are sure parents will find this a very useful facility."

Chlo had spinal muscular atrophy and was given only a 15 per cent chance of making it to her first birthday. She died on March 18 in the arms of her mother. Family and friends marked what would have been Chlo's first birthday, last Thursday, with a pink cake and a party.
