American singer-musician John McCormack returns to Keighley next Friday during his latest trip across the Atlantic.

This "official troubadour for the 21st century" headlines at the Bacca Pipes folk club from 8.30pm.

John is described as a modern minstrel with gentle wit, sensitive vocals and wicked guitar skills.

He has mastered the intricate styles of the American, Irish, Scottish and English folk traditions while developing a rich, resonant and expressive voice.

The latest of John's five albums mixes contemporary and traditional songs, which will be supplemented on stage by stories.

Tonight is poetry night at the Bacca Pipes, in Keighley Ukrainian Club, 9 Henry Street, off Cavendish Street, Keighley.

n Keighley music promoter Michael Thompson is going ahead with the release of a CD by local band Circus?.

The trio teamed up with Michael to record "I Think We're Alone Now", originally by 1980s singer Tiffany, but Circus? did not want it released.

Michael has now gained permission from copyright holders EMI Music Publishing to distribute copies of the track so long as he does not charge.

He hopes the punky reworking of the song -- which will be sent to Radio 1 -- will attract record industry interest in the popular Keighley band.

He says: "What Circus? have done to the song makes it unique and it is now a marketable product. I am now aiming to get others to believe this."

n Hush play indie-rock in the New Variety Club, Russell Street, Keighley (tomorrow), Talbot Hotel, Burnley (Friday), and Holy Garth Social Club, Bradford (April 24).

Hush plans to record a single later this year featuring three new songs by front man Don Gaudiosi.

The Keighley band's plans to record a second album have been shelved due to lack of money, but a cancer charity gig will go ahead on October 30, at Victoria Hall, Keighley.

Landlord Robin Dearden has organised the night for fans of jazz, country, blues and rock music.
