FORMER Keighley Cougars player David Cox will be swapping his rugby boots for running shoes as he pounds the streets of the capital on Sunday -- when he takes part in the Flora London Marathon this weekend.
David, 42, (pictured) played at Lawkholme Lane in 1989-90 under coaches Tony Fisher, Peter Roe and Les Coulter. The hooker/prop went onto coach the Cougar cubs Under-11s and also played amateur rugby with Worth Village.
He warmed up for his marathon run by taking part in the Blackpool half-marathon but is sure Sunday's race will be his first -- and last -- full marathon run.
The Magnet worker is being sponsored for taking part and will be giving half the money he raises towards the Cougar Cubs project to develop a new clubhouse in St John's road, Utley. The rest is going to the National Autism Society.
"I'm really looking forward to running with the thousands of other people who will be taking part in the Marathon, but I'm dreading the distance," he said.
Anyone wanting to support Dave can contact him on 01535 670820.
This year, runners from a record 54 countries from across the globe will be taking part in the Flora London Marathon.
