Ten-year-old motocross racer Adam Marsden -- nicknamed The Yorkshire Torpedo -- set St Michael's racetrack at Garstang alight with a display of aggressive racing in his latest event.

Adam (pictured ) picked up his first event win on his KTM 65 SX machine to win a place in the national championships later in the year.

The result was even sweeter after Adam only made the decision to compete at the Vale Motocross Club at the last minute.

He claimed third place in the first race and then went one better to finish second in his second outing -- enough to give him a six-point lead after two events.

Adam then needed to finish fourth or higher in the final race of the day to claim the trophy.

With his mum and dad watching on the sidelines, Adam hit the front and a fierce battle unfolded with his close friend Ollie Hartley.

In the end, Adam conceded the race lead to Ollie knowing fourth or above would secure an overall victory.

Adam said "I could have tried to get the lead back, but didn't want to ruin my chances of my first win -- so second was good enough anyway."

The result came a week after a sixth place finish, at Doncaster, with the Phoenix Northwest Motocross club.
