Junior Witter does not blame new promoter Mick Hennessy for his European let-down.

Witter was back in the gym this week to get rid of the lingering frustration from seeing his title crack kyboshed twice on the eve of his big night in Bradford.

But the Hitter, who now expects to face Salvatore Battaglia at Nottingham in June, does not point the finger at Hennessy after the Italian pulled out ill and replacement Gavin Down was knocked back by the British board.

Witter said: "It's not the best of starts with Mick but there's no way you can say it was his fault. He couldn't have done more for me.

"For him to go out and find Gavin and make the match at the 11th hour was brilliant management and teamwork. Then to have to do it again in no time at all and get another fight showed that he is a quality operator.

"A lot of things went wrong which were out of our control but I look at it positively. I needed the outing, which I got, I was paid and it will hopefully act as a nice warm-up for the European title when it does finally happen.

"It may not feel like it but that could be a blessing in disguise."

Witter claimed his 13th straight stoppage in his first pro fight in Bradford and, without going through all the gears, his showing against Oscar Hall impressed the crowd.

He added: "My head wasn't really in it but I didn't get hit by anything and I was pleased that the power was there. I didn't want to put in a poor performance and the crowd really picked me up.

"I'd put pressure on myself because it was in Bradford and a lot of people hadn't had the chance to see me in action before. I got some good feedback afterwards from fans, so although it wasn't my best, that is something else good to come out of it."

Witter, who has been in solid training since January, will take a break in the Gran Canarian sunshine next week before returning to plot the downfall of Battaglia for the second time.

It is most likely that will take place on the Carl Froch bill on June 2, although there could be an opening for another date in Nottingham later in the month.

Witter will be ready and raring whenever. "The Italian is certainly going to know about it," he warned.
