Community access to policing is to be increased across the Worth Valley.

Following the success of the Worth Valley Police and Community Contact Point in Haworth, satellite offices could be set up in Oxenhope and Oakworth.

A Worth Valley Watch Committee has been set up and special police boxes could be built in the three villages.

The new ideas were announced at an Oxenhope Parish Council meeting.

The council is seeking funding to open a satellite contact point to complement such a facility in Haworth.

Cllr Derek Allen has approached Bradford Council, which is looking to open contact points across the district, about funding.

He said: "Although the first contact points have gone to other places, Bradford Vision thought we might stand the chance of funding in the future.

"The feeling was that we would have a fair chance of funding for this sort of thing."

He added he had also looked at the possibility of money from the Countryside Agency, but expected council funding was the most likely.

A similar office could be opened in Oakworth, with Holden Hall or the Methodist Church the more probable options.

Cllr Allen added that the police might put in boxes for villagers' requests.

He said: "There is a proposal for local police boxes which would be distributed throughout the villages including Oxenhope.

"They are for people to put in requests to the police, and have been used successfully in other parts of the country.

"That seems a good idea to me and I think we should go for it."

And to add to the achievements of Keighley Town Council Watch Committee, the three villages will co-ordinate a similar group.

Chairman Cllr Chris Brown said representatives from Oxenhope and Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury parish councils would meet with an Oakworth ward councillor from Keighley Town Council every three months.

He said: "We think it would be a good idea and it is a way of getting local police involved."
