Work has been carried out to improve access to Keighley's centre for the disabled after one user tripped on a loose paving stone.

For more than four months staff at Keighley Disabled People's Centre, in Temple Row, have complained to Bradford Council about the poor state of the cobbled road.

And a month ago Gwen Ward, who uses the centre, tripped over one of the loose flagstones.

But after Charlie Bhowmick, a member of the centre, made a fresh complaint to the council because of the accident, the work has been completed.

Centre development officer Keith Bell told the Keighley News he thought the work should have been done sooner because the building was used by many elderly and disabled people.

"This is a hazard because we have people with visibility impairment, people with wheelchairs and mobility problems," he said. "They only have to catch that stone and go flying.

"We have got the most accessible building in Keighley but the road to it is a battle zone."

Mrs Ward, 64, said: "What is concerning is that there are a lot of disabled people using the road."

She added: "I just had a few bruises. But it shook me up."
