AN emergency meeting will be held on Monday to determine whether a £100,000 mobile phone mast should be built on farmland in Silsden.

Keighley Area Planning Panel will discuss the proposed nine feet tall mast for Vodafone, which would be built on Raikes Head Farm, Bradley Road.

The meeting is urgent because the 56 days members have to oppose plans are up on April 30. If no objections are made, the plans will go ahead.

No formal objections have been received as yet and senior planning officer John Eyles says Vodaphone has complied with Government regulations concerning health and safety.

Vodaphone want to build the mast around half a mile from the main cluster of houses in the village so customers can access picture-text messaging and to improve its existing service.

A spokesman from Vodaphone said: "We want to build the mast simply so we can move technology on."

The meeting will take place at Keighley Town Hall on 26 April at 2pm.
