Cowling Harlequins 14

Thornton A 22

Cowling played this home fixture on Silsden Park Rangers pitch due to a lack of rugby posts at their South Craven ground.

Both teams started off at an electric pace with Cowling coming out on top in the opening exchanges.

Metcalfe and Dent scored early tries for Cowling with Daz Greenwood converting the first.

Unfortunately for Cowling, Thornton stepped up a gear and two quick breakaway tries and a conversion saw them level by half-time.

The second half was a struggle for Cowling however and they eventually lost their way for Thornton to take the points.

Two great tries came in the second period, one a solo effort from a Thornton player who collected the ball from close to his own line and weaved his way through the flailing arms of four Cowling players to score.

A Jimmy Anson special for Cowling followed as the home side hit back.

He evaded several Thornton players to run almost the length of the field close to the touchline and put down in the corner.

In the end Thornton won a entertaining game by eight points which kept the crowd on their toes and vocal chords stretched.

Several Cowling players had an excellent game though.

Ben Clements won the man of the match award for his sterling efforts.

Cowling play Greetland All Rounders A"in their last game of the season at Silsden Park on Saturday, 2.30pm kick off.
