Guiseley 2, Kidsgrove Athletic 0

Guiseley ended their season on a high with news of their promotion to the UniBond Premier Division being followed by an easy win over Kidsgrove.

The Staffordshire side arrived late at Nethermoor having been delayed in traffic and the kick-off had to be put back 20 minutes.

Kidsgrove never really got out of second gear apart from striker Curtis Bernard who was lively throughout.

They escaped with some leniency from the referee but eventually ended up arguing amongst them selves as Guiseley pulled all the strings.

Scott Jackson returned to the side after work commitments had kept him out of the win over Stocksbridge. He has grown in stature as the season has progressed and his hard work is being recognised by the fans.

He opened the scoring just before half-time after Dave Henry had advanced down the right and slipped a ball inside to Mark Stuart.

Stuart floated the ball to the far post where Jackson headed home past the stranded Steve Cherry. Guiseley had earlier seen Jez Illingworth fire just over from Peter Sumner's cross.

Sumner was also unfortunate to have goal disallowed as his shot appeared to be headed clear from behind the goaline. Kidsgrove rode their luck with three penalty appeals for hand ball being turned down by referee Alec Clyde. The veteran Cherry's colourful exchange of opinions with his manager brought a little light relief for the supporters behind the goal.

Kidsgrove started the second-half with Darren Twigg heading straight into John Lamb's arms from a good Richard Eyre cross. Twigg then returned the complement to Eyre, by executing a scything tackle that missed Richard Chattoe and caught the substitute who had come off the bench midway through the first-half.

The resulting injury proved to be Eyre's last action as Adam Vickers replaced him.

Guiseley sealed their victory in the 55th minute with a second goal from one of this season's most consistent performers Illingworth. He showed great skill in controlling the ball before netting despite the attentions of two defenders.

So Guiseley have regained their place in the UniBond Premier Division after a four year absence.

The Reserves still have four games to play, two at home.
