TWO soccer playing pupils from Guiseley School will have their dreams fulfilled on May 22 when they step out in the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff for the FA Cup Final.

James Davey, 14, and Catharine Millar,12, will be mixing it with the stars of Manchester United and Millwall as part of the West Riding County FA contingent acting as ball boys/girls for the showpiece final.

West Riding County FA Secretary Roy Carter said: "We are delighted to be given this tremendous honour of supplying the ball boys/girls for the FA Cup Final which is the culmination of the greatest cup competition in the world. We are sure that those chosen will have an unforgettable experience of Cardiff and the atmosphere of the stadium."

James, who lives in Guiseley, plays in central midfield for Otley Town U-14s.

Each player is allowed to purchase two tickets so that parents can accompany them to the match.

At James' house the ticket allocation has caused something of a stir but dad Andrew and elder brother Chris have won the battle for tickets leaving mum to go shopping.

Both parents keenly support the Davey boys in their sporting exploits but with Chris being soccer mad as well somebody had to miss out.

Midfielder Chris plays for Guiseley AFC under-17s, Under-19s and reserve teams and has captained the Wharfedale FA under-17 representative side this season as well as playing for the West Riding FA U-18 squad.

James is keen to follow in his footsteps but first he has that FA Cup final date.

"I will be taking my autograph book hoping to get some names in it. It will be a brilliant day, I am really looking forward to it," he said.

James was nominated for the honour by the Wharfedale FA while fellow pupil Catharine, from Menston, was nominated by a different route. The County FA decided to pick one boy from each of their district areas and then make up the 16 with four girls from the West Riding girls' leagues.

Catherine plays for Bradford side Prospect Juniors as a midfielder. Her favourite player is Leeds United's Alan Smith and with James also being a Leeds United fan it looks as if Manchester United won't be getting much cheering from the ballboys and girls.

Catharine's Mum Charlotte will accompany her to the game. She said: "She is taking it all in her stride really. I think I am more excited than she is."

Dawn Bray, vice-chairman of Catharine's club Prospect Juniors said: "It will be a magnificent day for Catharine and I am really pleased that girls are taking such a central role in the big match."

She added: "We put all the names in a hat and Catharine's came out."
