Will Musgrave travelled with the England Under-18 hockey squad to Eindhoven in Holland for the European Four Nations Tournament and returned with a gold medal.

In the pool stage England lost their opening game to the Netherlands 4-0.

The following day saw a revitalised team eager to take on Germany and the result confirmed their intent as they won 6-2.

Next up were Spain and this proved to be a tough and slightly nervy encounter but England played well to win 3-2 and set up another match against the Dutch.

The final was played in the main stadium in front of 1500 spectators straight after the European Cup Final between Cannock (English Cup winners) and Oranje Swart (Dutch winners) in which the home side won on penalty flicks.

This was a hard-fought game with England having done their homework from the opening pool game and matching the Dutch in every department.

The score was level at half-time 1-1 but England managed to score a short corner after ten minutes of the second-half.

The home side then increased the pressure and had a succession of short corners which they failed to convert in no small part due to some heroics of the England 'keeper.

With just over five minutes to go England broke away moving the ball quickly the final pass to Will just inside the circle.

The Burley-in-Wharfedale youngster's shot went wide of the diving 'keeper to score putting the game beyond the Dutch and winning England the gold medals.

Beating the Netherlands on home turf is a rare feat for an English team and certainly a moment to savour and brings to an end Will's junior international career.

He must now look to the Under-21 ide over the next year or so.

Will started his career with the Ben Rhydding club but in order to maintain his place in the England set up he had to move on to play on a water-based pitch at Bowdon.
