Mark Hobson is hungry to send Lee Swaby tumbling off the cruiserweight map.

The Huddersfield-based double champion puts his British and Commonwealth belts up for grabs in a hometown show on May 27.

It is old ground for Hobson against mandatory contender Swaby, who he beat on points two years ago despite being knocked over twice in a round.

"Mark's going in there with bad intentions," warned co-manager Chris Aston. "Swaby's been saying a few things about him and he's very serious about this.

"Swaby's carried on winning since losing their first fight. He's done all he can so he's earned another shot.

"It won't be an easy fight but Mark is in a different class now compared with the last time. He has shown in the last year to everybody that he is much better than they thought and he wants to take it further.

"He's coming off a good win against Tony Moran and wants to put in another impressive performance. There is plenty at stake for both fighters but Mark is totally committed.

"He has cleared the decks so there are no distractions and sorted out his work so it fits around his boxing. His preparation is completely different to their last fight two years ago."

The mouth-watering match-up is seen as an unofficial eliminator for IBO champion Carl Thompson, who is currently sitting out a six-month ban for tampering with his gloves. Victory would also elevate Hobson to leading British contender for the European belt currently worn by Italy's Vincenzo Cantatore.

Aston added: "Johnny Nelson won't fight for it nor Thompson so that would put Mark right up there. That's why there is so much riding on this and it's a big chance for him to shine. Hobson's headlining in Huddersfield and he's headlining the cruisers. They are all queuing up behind him but he's the best of the lot."

Hobson was training for a date in June but shifting it forward by a couple of weeks has not upset his plans.

He has been sparring with another southpaw, heavyweight Paul Buttery, for a fortnight and is due to do some more

gym work with the hard-hitting Peter Oboh.

Aston added: "It's a bit more of a rush than we were thinking of but Mark's been in the gym for a while and I'm sure he will peak at the right moment."

Bradford's Danny Parkinson could be added to the undercard.
