ANOTHER busy weekend for local bowlers starts today when the Worth Valley's Over-60's teams begin their Yorkshire League campaign with games in the Halifax Area.

Matches start at 10.30 with the local bowling scene represented by teams at Thrum Hall and Kingston in this new venture for the area. The No1 team meet North Yorkshire in the first match and play Calderdale at 1.30. the No2 team play reverse fixtures against the same opponents. The next roundof matches will be on may 28.

Inter-District Champions, Skipton, begin their title defence tonight (Friday) with a match against Huddersfield. Last year's inspirational captain Chris Slater has left the area and league secretary Peter Howarth is busy organising the teams, but is still searching for captains and team members. The secretary will also be busy on Sunday with the Spring handicap Finals at 6.30. Qualifiers include Roy Littlewood and the Hargreaves family, Trevor, Richard and holder Neil. Details are again available from Peter Howarth.

The Hebden Sunday Morning Knockout semi-finals are on Sunday at 10.30 with Oakworth the only local hopes left, after disposing of Denholme, in the last eight. Roy Littllewood's 21-4 victory clinched the game.

Yorkshire Ladies made a good start in the County championship, defeating Wirral with some ease. Whins Wood stars Margaret wood and Sue Finnie had differing fortunes in the home leg at Methley. Theynext match is against cheshire on May 16.

Graham Lomax and Phil Anderson recorded good wins in the Yorkshire v Civil Service game at Hillcrest, with the hosts winning easily. Whether the selectors were watching remains to be seen.
