A young man who died after a moped crash was due to become a dad for the first time this month.

Friends and family have paid tribute to 22-year-old Kamran Shah, who died in the early hours of yesterday at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

He was injured when his moped collided with a car at the junction of Spring Mill Street and Wood Road, West Bowling, on Monday afternoon.

Mr Shah's wife, 17-year-old Safeena Bibi, is due to give birth next week.

His father, Raza, had persuaded his son to sell the moped and Mr Shah, of Baxandall Street, West Bowling, was taking it out for a final spin when the tragedy happened.

As hundreds of mourners flocked to Mr Shah's home to pay their respects, his father said: "Kamran wanted to stand on his own two feet and accomplish something in life. He was over the moon about his baby. In the last few days that's all he was talking about."

The 44-year-old father-of-four added: "He was a lovely boy who was very well liked by everyone. He respected his elders and was a bubbly boy who enjoyed life. He wanted to handle his responsibilities but now he will not get the chance. His wife has taken it really badly."

His uncle Tariq Shah, 37, of Legrams Lane, said: "Kamran only had the moped for a few days and it was not working. His dad said it was too dangerous so he had it repaired and was going to sell it. He had just taken it for a last test ride before he sold it."

Mr Shah, who was unemployed and a former student of Grange School, had been married for ten months.

His uncle praised his nephew's friends for their help and support throughout the family's ordeal. Mr Shah's friend Sajid Ali, 17, of Parkside Road, said: "Kamran was like a brother to us. We are all going to miss him."

Ozy Awan, 21, of Baxandall Street, added: "He was a lovely guy with a brilliant heart."

And Ali Raja, 25, of Parkside Road, said: "He is still in our hearts and our minds."

Mr Shah also leaves his mother, two sisters and 17-year-old brother Razwan.

A funeral service will be held at 8pm today at Scholemoor Cemetery.

Police are still appealing for witnesses who saw the bike before the accident to call them on (01274) 376459.
