A businessman has organised a charity event to make the lives of two children a little easier.

Neil Saville, managing director of Rawdon-based lifestyle journal H2B, hopes to raise at least £20,000 for Miles Bradbourne and Joshua Mitchell through a black-tie ball.

Eighteen-month-old Miles has the rare chromosome deficiency disorder, Hurler Syndrome. He will develop normally until he is around two-and-a-half and then regress mentally and physically.

He is unlikely to live much beyond his sixth birthday.

Joshua, five, was born with a joint deformity. His leg was twisted behind his back, his foot was webbed, he had no ankle or knee joints and had an extra femur .

At 13 months, Joshua had his leg amputated and uses a prosthetic. Mum Victoria Mitchell wants a state-of-the-art leg for when he is older so he can play sports.

Miles's mother Naomi hopes to use the money raised for sensory equipment for her son.

Mr Saville heard about Miles and Joshua through his client, Samantha Green, who is Naomi's sister and Victoria's boss.

Samantha, who runs a hair dressing salon in Harrogate Road, Rawdon, knew Mr Saville held an annual charity ball and thought Miles and Joshua would make ideal beneficiaries.

Mr Saville said: "I think I have been lucky in life. Most of my businesses have been successful, and it is nice to give a bit back."

The event which will be at the Bossa Nova, in Shipley, on July 8. It includes a charity auction with prizes including a car, a holiday in France, jewellery and carpets - all donated by local businesses.

Restaurant staff will donate their tips. Tickets are sold out but anyone who would like to support the appeal can contact Mr Saville on (0113) 250 1904.
