An exciting centenary week at Keighley Golf Club climaxed with the Centenary Match Play final which pitched Pauline Brook against David Plumb.

The course was in superb condition with lightning-fast greens and challenging pin positions despite so me heavy rain mid-week. Pauline took an early lead but a fine tee shot by David at the par 3, eighth hole which lipped out got him back into the match. Pauline rallied again winning the 13th, 14th and 15th holes to close out the match. The result was a win for 4 and 2 win for Pauline.

The week had started with the Centenary Team competition for teams of four, including one lady, Playing a handicap stableford, two scores to count on the par threes, three scores to count on the par 4s and all to count on the par 5s. The winning team was Steven Driver, Billy Lowe, Nick Northrop and Lesley Logan with a two-under par 105 points. Runners-up were Alastair Clarke, Graeme McLevy, Mike Cryer and Adele Mitchell with 103 points.

There was a members' Invitation Day on Sunday, June 20. The winners were Robert Sunderland and R. Sunderland with 44 points. The runners-up were Ian Houldsworth and D. Steel with 43 points.

The Ladies Centenary Strokeplay Competition was played in glorious sunshine. The CSS of 75 reflected the testing pin positions and made Carolyn Chapman's net 70 even more impressive. The runner-up with a net 74 was Susan Lund.

Torrential rain on Wednesday could not spoil the Centenary Guests Day. Representatives from EGU, LGU, Yorkshire, Bradford and clubs also celebrating a centenary paired up with a member in the competition. In first place were Steve Stupka and C Bottomley (Riddlesden) with 42 points and runners-up were Andy Utley and A Taylor (Pontefract) with 40 points.

The weather improved slightly on Thursday for the Centenary Foursomes, but in blustery conditions scoring was not easy. The winners were David Wright and Len Hughes with 35 points and the runners-up were Chris Bell and David Jackson also on 35 points.

The Men played their Centenary Medal on Saturday when lady members dressed in the costumes of 100 years ago acted as starters. There were some fine scores, again testimony to the super condition of the course. The winner with a net 65, playing off a handicap of 19 was Mike Rosser and the runner-up was Paul Donaldson with a net 66 playing off a handicap of 5.

The week culminated with a Centenary Ball in the clubhouse on Saturday which was reported to be the best event ever!

On Tuesday the Ladies played for the Club Professional's Prize. The overall winner was Judith Smith with a net 68, winner of the Silver Division was Adele Mitchell with a net 69 and winner of the Bronze Division was Shelagh Hardcastle with a net 71.

Riddlesden -- The Ladies Past Captains Competition was won by Mrs Thelma Smith with 38 points with Mrs Kath Brooksbank in second place with 34 points. Third was Mrs Eileen Cropper with 32 points.

The June Shield was won by Mrs Cynthia Brogan w2ith 33 points, second was Kath Brooksbank with 32 points and third was Mrs Sharon Heap with 29 points.

Bracken Ghyll -- The club's Ladies are one of only three Yorkshire teams to reach the last 64 of the 2004 Mail on Sunday Women's National Golf Club Classic out of 1,700 teams which started out in the event.

After a first round bye, Bracken Ghyll travelled to Northcliffe Golf Club, and after a fighting 2-2 draw it was down to Karen Lampkin in fourth spot to go to sudden death and on the 20th hole.

The third round was played at Bracken Ghyll. against a strong Cleckheaton side, and resulted in a 3-1 win for the home side.

The venue for the fourth round was Knaresborough, and after another gritty 2-2 draw Karen was again called upon to go up the 19th. Once again she held her nerve to win on the 20th.

Three games in the fifth round match against East Bierley finished all square, with Chris Knowles securing the vital point to clinch a 2-1 victory.

The next tie is away to Hartlepool Golf Club in July, after which there will be two further rounds culminating in the quarter-finals in October, the winners of which will go through to the Grand Final in November to be held in Spain.
