Oakworth's long wait to get their hands on the Cowling Cup goes on after Haworth Road snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at Cure Hill.

On a damp pitch that gave help to the bowlers, the homesters battled hard to put forward a challenging total. They did well to reach 138 with Steve Powell making 30 and Andy Dawson 27. Graham Jones was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4-32 off 12 overs.

When the Haworth Road batted it was Dawson's height, and partly the track, that had them reeling as they staggered to 50-7. In a hostile accurate spell of 12 overs he took 5-18, the pick of which was the ball that uprooted Adam Cook's middle stump when he had reached 20.

Jones joined 16-year-old Richard Forrest in what looked to be a lost cause. First they steadied the ship and then, as they grew in confidence, chipped away at the home total. The 42nd over arrived with 10 needed for victory. Jones hit one ball out of the ground and then struck the next to the square leg boundary and victory was theirs by three wickets. Jones made 44no and Forrest 33no in a match-winning stand of 89. The Fourth Division leaders have now accounted for three Third Division sides, including last year's champions and runners-up.

There was a sporty track at Pendle Forest where Ingrow were the visitors. The Fence side tumbled to 61 all out with A Mahmood returning the incredible figures of 9-16 off 11 overs, which also included the hat trick. This is by far the best bowling return in the competition since the bowlers over restriction was introduced.

Sadly the Ingrow bowler was to end up on the losing side as his team were knocked over for 47. Edward Snowden was pick of the Pendle bowlers with 5-12 as Ian Herbert top scored with 15.

The Red Rose clash between Chatburn and Barrowford was a high scoring affair with the latter thrillingly getting home by nine runs. The Bull Holme side batted first and posted 180-7, which included an undefeated match-winning eighth wicket stand of 21 by skipper Nigel Hargreaves, who finished on 56no, and John Stanworth who scored 11no. S Braithwaite was the most successful bowler finishing with 3-67 off 11 overs. The Ribblesdale side were always in the hunt, even when the last pair came together with 29 needed. Youngster Chris Waddington made 27no but lost his partner Russell Braithwaite with 13 balls of the innings left.

Haworth complete the semi-final quartet after they travelled to Morton to take on Ingrow St John's and came away victorious by two wickets. Colin Williamson and Alex Austerberry were stars of that particular show.
