BAD weather decimated the J P Mewies Craven Cricket League programme last Saturday, but although finishes were few and far between, one game that did go ahead could have a major impact on the Division One title race.

Leaders Embsay were unbeaten when they visited second-placed Barrowford and with a home win over arch-rival Oakworth the previous week, were clearly hopeful of strengthening their position at the top.

Ironically, they found the home side reluctant to start the game, a position that had certainly changed at the conclusion of the game, which they won by 18 runs to narrow the gap at the top to just two points.

The Bull Holme side had Liam Roberts (35) mainly to thank for their 122-9 as Dan Stephens claimed 3-38 and John Metcalfe 3-53.

The Shires Lane side started well and were 47-1 before the wheels came off and they crashed to 104 all out, John Hargreaves taking 5-48 and David Hartley 3-23.
