Iestyn Harris is set to face Wakefield next Sunday after the Rugby Football League cleared the former Leeds star to play.

The Bulls paraded Harris on Thursday but the RFL did not process his registration immediately because of a complaint by Leeds.

The Rhinos claim they released Harris in 2001 with two years left on his contract on the condition that he returned to them in 2004.

But the RFL have now said that that agreement does not prevent the Bulls from registering him and that Leeds' claims are a matter between themselves and Harris.

A statement issued by the league said: "Whilst Leeds Rhinos have forwarded a copy of the severance agreement between the club and Iestyn Harris, no RFL player's contract exists between the two parties at this time.

"The terms of the severance agreement are a matter for Leeds and Harris. Accordingly, the RFL have accepted the Bradford playing contract as being the only one in existence at this time and Leeds have notified the RFL that the club accept he is entitled to be registered by the RFL."

Leeds are now to take legal action against Harris, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Odsal.

The Bulls were pleased with the quick resolution of the issue by the RFL but have expressed anger at the actions of Leeds, who accused them of coercing Harris into joining them and of being "deceptive".

Chairman Chris Caisley said: "We are grateful to the Rugby Football League for arriving at a speedy acceptance of Iestyn's registration.

"Whilst it was blindingly obvious that Iestyn is a contracted Bulls player there was a lot of misinformation being disseminated to the RFL and the media which clouded one very simple question, namely, which club had Iestyn signed a rugby league contract with?

"The truth is that, despite misleading statements to the contrary, there was only ever one such contract signed and registered with the RFL and that is the one we registered with them.

"As far as we are concerned that aspect of the matter is closed, although we are looking into the very serious associated matter of the defamatory comments made of our club yesterday by the chief executive of the Leeds Rugby League Club."

Harris has not played for six weeks as he recovers from a knee injury and will not be considered for selection for the game at Castleford.
