Darren Holloway joined City for training today as the next part of Colin Todd's jigsaw.

The former Wimbledon and Sunderland right back was meeting his new team-mates for the first time at Apperley Bridge.

Todd is confident a deal with the 26-year-old can be completed this week - and plans to introduce the defender in the next pre-season friendly at Darlington on Wednesday.

Todd said: "Holloway is in today and tomorrow and hopefully we can get that concluded. I think it's been finalised between people in the football club and his agent and should be wrapped up.

"I don't see any reason why he can't play on Wednesday and then I'll look for the next one."

That new target is a left-sided midfielder who can also play full back.

Todd has a man in mind and said: "We've got irons in the fire. We'll just have to see whether it can transpire in the right way."

City head towards their first game against professional opposition in good mood after thumping Farsley Celtic 8-1 at Throstle Nest on Saturday.

Dean Windass helped himself to five of the six first-half goals before Todd made wholesale changes after the break as he did at Harrogate.

"It was a decent first 45 minutes but Wednesday will be a better yardstick," said Todd. "But we've had two games which were important PR work and hopefully good for the community.

"When you come to places like Farsley, even in pre-season, your application has got to be right and you have to be professional in what you do. When you make a lot of changes you lose the purpose but we got something positive out of the first half."
