The rejuvenation of a once-bustling Bradford industrial area has continued with the arrival of another new business.

Teesside-based Leader Group has rented the last 6,000 sq ft unit on the Marrtree-owned industrial estate in Bowling Back Lane.

The floors and doors specialist is providing five new jobs at the site and will join leading electricity distribution business City Electrical Factors at the industrial park. CEF opened its Bradford regional distribution centre earlier this year. It includes a sales centre, warehouse and offices.

Leader general manager Dave Brown said he believed the location next to Wakefield Road - close to the city centre and the motorway - was ideal for the company, which has 20 sites in the UK.

"We are well represented across Yorkshire and the surrounding region and the new Bradford base will play a key role in our future growth," he said.

William Marshall, director of Marrtree, said the arrival of the two companies was a major boost.

"We have invested in these high quality units and have attracted tenants who have put a lot of capital into the highest specification of fit-out," he said. "This site has become a prime example of modern business premises, with excellent transport connections. The units have been leased to growing companies which are increasingly contributing to the Bradford economy.

"I believe they will add substantially to the growing business confidence in this part of the city." The arrival of CEF - which employs nearly 5,000 people nationally - and Leader means that all of the Marrtree development's 14,000 sq ft of industrial space has now been let on the site.

Bowling Back Lane has suffered a string of blows and lost hundreds of jobs in recent years with the departure of Newplan Furniture and T&D Packaging. However, the Bradford-based PM Group recently opened a new wheelie bin manufacturing plant in the area and free-standing bath specialist Clearwater Collection is to open a new headquarters at the former T&D site.
