More than 450 people celebrated the opening of the newly-refurbished Fagley Youth and Community Centre.

They were among thousands of people across the region attending galas and fundraising events over the weekend despite poor weather.

Resident Frances Harrison, 87, who had campaigned vigorously for the upgraded facilities at Fagley opened the event.

Young footballers from across the city competed in a rain-drenched football tournament, with victories in both the under-10s and under-12s categories for Horton Park.

Meanwhile families enjoyed the stalls, raffle, karaoke and refreshments at the centre, which has seen a £240,000 upgrade. Community and project development worker Chris Light said: "This is the first time the gala has run for the past five years but it is going to be an annual event."

Hundreds of guests had fun while raising money for a good cause at the Marie Curie Hospice in Maudsley Street, Bradford.

Organisers hoped to raise £2,000 as visitors took advantage of alternative therapies on offer.

Community fundraising manager Brenda Doyle said: "The weather has actually worked to our advantage as the event was held indoors."

National Archaeology Weekend was celebrated in Baildon with a walk around the moor, followed by a chance to handle artefacts. The group discussed the pre-historic carved rocks that can be found on the moor, evidence of Iron Age walling and bell pits left from the industrial excavation of coal in the area. They also had the chance to handle flints dating back to the Neolithic age.
