Birmingham Bulldogs 30

Bradford Dudley Hill 48

Bradford Dudley Hill extended their winning run to eight matches in LHF Healthplan National League Three.

But, for the second week in a row, question marks were left over Hill's second-half defensive display.

With 16 minutes remaining the visitors were 36-12 in front, but, despite scoring two more tries themselves, they conceded a hat-trick of tries in 13 minutes to Bulldogs stand-off Adam Cawley.

"Perhaps we took Birmingham too lightly, and maybe we need to look at our motivation before we go down to Essex Eels next weekend," confessed Hill's first-team manager Lee Collins.

Danny Whiteley set the ball rolling for Hill with a sixth-minute try, but an error on Birmingham's 30-metre line five minutes later gave home full back John Hefford the chance to collect and score, Cawley converting.

Chris Robinson got on the end of a Whiteley pass to put Hill back in front in the 17th minute, full back Lee Innes' conversion stretching the margin to 10-6.

But Birmingham were back in front in an end-to-end half after 25 minutes, winger Quentin Keanie getting the touchdown after Hill failed to deal with a Cawley kick, Cawley's goal making it 12-10.

Hill's forwards generally held sway in the opening stanza, however, and Marco Rossi scooted over by the posts in the 29th minute, Innes' extras making it 16-12 to the visitors.

Ten minutes later Sam Broadley went over, Innes' successful kick making the half-time score 22-12 to Hill.

Innes soon landed a penalty - awarded for holding down - in the second half, and two tries followed as Hill threatened to break the 50-point barrier.

Whiteley went over in the 48th minute and Rossi in the 64th as Robinson's influence on the match grew, Innes improving both scores.

However, for the final 13 minutes, it was the Cawley show as the Bulldog grabbed a side-stepping hat-trick.

The talented half-back also landed each conversion.

However, Hill did manage to score tries after his first and second efforts.

Debutant Peceli Nacmavuto - a British Army colleague of Innes - knocked all and sundry out of his way in a 50-metre run to the line in the 72nd minute, and Jamie Brentley added a typical winger's try six minutes later.

Fijian centre Nacmavuto - a short-term replacement for New Zealander Dave Brown - picked up the man-of-the-match and game-breaker awards for the Parry Laners.
