Paul Henderson wants to put on a City shirt for keeps.

The Sydney-born stopper proved a real wizard from Oz with a string of good saves in the 2-1 victory over Bolton in Wayne Jacobs' testimonial after answering an 11th hour call to play on Saturday.

And the 26-year-old, who only arrived at Valley Parade the day before, is keen to team up with the Bantams and fight Jamaican international Donovan Ricketts for the starting jersey next season.

Boss Colin Todd got in touch with the Aussie after freeing youngster Kieran Westwood, who had played in the three previous friendlies. Ricketts is still unable to play until his work permit is cleared.

Now having seen Henderson seize his chance, Todd planned to sit down with him today to discuss a deal which would solve the club's goalkeeping shortage.

Todd said: "I will speak to Paul to see what his thoughts are on this football club. If I can sign him I will do.

"I heard very good reports about him and threw him into a very difficult game but he came through with flying colours."

Henderson, who trained with Bolton and Ipswich last season, has just finished a ten-day spell with Blackpool and featured in their tour of Northern Ireland.

He said: "I was struggling to know anybody's name because I'd only arrived on Friday. It was quite short notice but I'm over here for a reason and that's hopefully to get something permanent at Bradford.

"It was quite surprising that Bolton started with their main players but it was a good test to see how far I have come.

"I was very, very nervous seeing players like Jay Jay Okocha who I watch back home on telly in the Premier League, suddenly being up against them was a bit of a dream.

"But I was pleased how it worked out and fingers crossed it won't have done me any harm."

Henderson hopes to follow in the footsteps of Mark Schwarzer, another keeper from Down Under who made a big impact at City on his way to Middlesbrough.

He added: "The good thing is that people like Schwarzer have built up a good reputation for Australian goalkeepers.

"Mark Bosnich in his prime was probably one of the best in the world so it helps that they have built up a good platform for us."
