A Bradford restaurant has thrown its weight behind The Save Our City Appeal by organising a fund-raising dinner.

Owners of Kebabeesh in New Line, Greengates, are urging people of all races to come together to help secure the future of the Bantams.

Peter Bashir, who helps to run the family-owned business, said he had been touched by the efforts of the public so far, and is hoping thousands of pounds will be raised at the event.

He said: "Obviously having lived in Bradford since 1960 I'm concerned at the possible demise that Bradford City faces.

"We have decided to try to attract as many customers as possible by holding a charity dinner."

Mr Bashir said the dinner would be held at Valley Parade with the support of the club, with all food provided by the Asian restaurant.

The 52-year-old said it was hoped 600 people would attend and £12,000 could be raised from ticket sales.

He said he hoped past and present City stars would also attend the dinner and that thousands more pounds would be raised at the event itself through competitions and an auction.

He said the event had the backing of the Bradford Eid Committee which would try to promote the dinner to as many people as possible in the ethnic community.

"We want to make it a multi-cultural event," he said. "We want to involve a cross-section of society and show that the Asian community wants to see Bradford saved.

"I'm touched by the club's plight and feel that what Bradford City gives to this metropolis should not be lost and we want to support that notion."

The dinner will take place on October 3 and tickets are £20.
