Prince Andrew took time to see how a textiles company is prospering in these difficult times on a visit to Guiseley woollen mill Abraham Moon & Sons.
He saw the manufacturing process that dates back to 1837, the year Queen Victoria took the throne.
Managing director John Walsh told the Prince about the history of the firm, which still employs 140 staff.
Its customer base includes leading designers like Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and Armani, and modern manufacturing methods allied to a highly skilled workforce have enabled the mill to stay ahead of low-cost foreign competition.
"The Duke seemed extremely interested to hear our background and how we have met and overcome challenges by diversifying into furnishings and fashion accessories to complement our strength in the apparel textiles sector," he said.
Lorraine Ellison, sector specialist for UK Trade and Investment in Textiles, Fashion and Design, said: "We felt Abraham Moon & Sons provided a great opportunity for the Duke to see how forward-thinking the industry really is.
"The business is an excellent example of innovation and tradition."
