Farsley Celtic 1

Huddersfield 1

The Celts earned a draw against a strong Huddersfield Town side as they faced their final pre-season game against full time opponents at Throstle Nest last night.

The home side started well and, after testing Terriers keeper Phil Senior in the opening exchanges, they scored in the fourth minute.

Senior was on his toes to make a very smart save to deny Celts forward Mark Bett. But Senior was soon to be beaten - Matt Smithard's direct free-kick dipped in front of him and reared up off the surface to nestle in the back of the net.

The visitors levelled in the 37th minute through trialist Sam Sodje, the brother of Efe.

The gangling forward may appear ungainly but he finished his run into the area to latch on to a through ball with a neat stab past Tom Morgan.

"There was not much goalmouth action from either side in the second half, that is the nature of these warm-up games," said Celts secretary Nick Gill.

"Lee Sinnott made a number of changes at half-time and Huddersfield also swapped a few players around. Lee wanted to start with what he feels is the team that will start the season for us.

"Mick Midwood was missing through injury and Graham Mitchell has gone now after being offered the youth coaching role with Huddersfield. Apart from that many of the players in the first half were from the team that ended last season."
