Guiseley AFC kicked-off their pre-season friendlies this week with a trip to Ossett Albion and a home game against York City.

They are gearing up for their home game with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday, August 3. Peter Jackson's side will come to to Nethermoor Park for a 7.30 pm kick-off.

At Ossett Albion on Monday a number of triallists took part in a game which saw around 20 players used by Guiseley.

With manager Neil Parsley on holiday Clive Freeman had charge of a squad which saw a return to action for Stewart Airdrie after a long lay-off last season. Airdrie was one of Guiseley's scorers in a 5-4 defeat.

Dave Henry netted twice and Bruce Hogg scored the other Guiseley goal. Ossett's winner came in the dying minutes amidst farcical circumstances.

Former Nethermoor striker Mick Norbury clashed with Guiseley triallist Kevin Graham. When the referee asked Ossett to replace Norbury they did so but Freeman also removed former Goole and Whitby centre-back Graham from the action to appease Ossett without replacing him. Ossett with a numerical advantage went on to net the winner in the last minute.

It was a good work out for the regulars in the first-half but all eyes were on the triallists and goalkeeper Dean Wordsworth had a night to forget being beaten five times.

In the second-half centre-back Simon Gough made a return to Guiseley colours after being out for some time with injury and work commitments.

Former Harrogate and Park Avenue midfielder Dave Donaldson was also back in a Guiseley shirt while Chris Kamara, nephew of the former professional player of the same name, showed up well but is also having trials with Wakefield and Emley.

Guiseley were without a number of their first team squad players including Simon Parke, Ryan Senior, Peter Atkinson and Richard Chattoe.

Mark Stuart, fresh from his goalscoring exploits with Charlton in the televised Masters Tournament, lined up with Jez Illingworth, Bruce Hogg and Stewart Airdrie in midfield in the first-half with James Nettleton at right-back.

Guiseley face further friendlies at Goole tomorrow, Friday; at home to Huddersfield on Tuesday; at Yorkshire Amateurs on Saturday, August 7; at Silsden on Tuesday, August 10; at Glasshoughton on Thursday, August 12; and at Tadcaster Albion on Saturday, August 14.

The Reserves start their Lancashire League programme at home to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, August 14, and follow that with a home game on Tuesday, August 17, against Bradford Park Avenue.

The first team's UniBond League programme starts on Saturday, August 21, at home to Witton Albion.

Following their promotion last season in the the re-organisation of the league structure Guiseley will play in the Premier Division.

They will also again be involved in both the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. In the FA Cup first qualifying round Guiseley entertain Bacup or Chorley on September 18. In the FA Trophy first round they face a tough task at Burscough on November 6.
