Steve Schumacher aims to be the driving force behind City this season.

The 20-year-old midfielder cannot wait to roar into League One after being stuck in Everton's reserves. And he wants to play at least 30 games.

Schumacher's only league experience so far has been a month's loan last year with Carlisle, where he scored against Huddersfield in the LDV Vans Trophy.

The former England schoolboy star said: "It got frustrating not getting a chance at Everton. But the gaffer there was under a bit of pressure and they were never in a comfortable position where they could throw in young kids.

"It was hard to leave having been there for years but there are hundreds of young lads that don't get the breaks. But I'm putting that behind me now and hopefully at Bradford I can come in and do a decent job.

"We haven't got a massive squad and I'd like to think I've got a chance. Obviously it's up to the manager to pick the team but up to me to make sure I stay in his plans."

Schumacher and former Goodison Park team-mate Michael Symes have both seized the opportunity in pre-season and been handed two-year contracts.

Schumacher added: "Michael and I have played in the same team for years and years so we're on the same wavelength.

"Hopefully we can get a good little partnership going and he'll get a few goals as well as me chipping in with a few.

"I didn't feel I was taking a risk coming here. I just want to play football and my goal is 30 league games this year, I'm not worried about any of the financial side."

Schumacher produced several surging runs from midfield against Bolton and intends to maintain that form into the campaign.

"I'm not one who suffers from lack of confidence. If it doesn't go for you, you've just got to try harder.

"I'll keep making those runs then eventually things will fall to me and hopefully I'll put a few goals away.
