Colin Todd is chasing four new players to shake up the City dressing room.

Todd's plans may be on hold because of league restrictions on numbers but he has got the men in mind that he wants to beef up the Valley Parade squad.

Jamie Lawrence and Dele Adebola are two targets and the others, one a versatile left-sided defender and the other thought to be a midfielder, are also experienced names who have been around the block.

Todd believes his team need a more battle-hardened core - and also fears that some players will slip into the comfort zone because of the lack of alternatives in certain areas.

He is keen to extend Adebola's stay to at least a three-month loan and will push to make the move permanent if a deal can be done.

That would need some financial help from Coventry but Todd said: "He is the calibre of player I'm hoping to bring in. Dele has formed a good partnership up front with Dean Windass and the whole team has benefited from that. I want experienced people who have been there and seen it all before.

"I like competition and that's what we are lacking. If I'm not careful, people might think that because there is no competition they will be straight on that team sheet.

"But I've got to surprise them when we do come out of administration by getting those four players in. I want people to know that they have to work extremely hard to keep their places at this football club.

"We're down to the bare bones in terms of number and as soon as we come out of administration, it's got to happen to bring those players in."

Adebola is back in the home attack against Chesterfield tomorrow as City look to lift themselves after the Carling Cup exit. Skipper David Wetherall and Wayne Jacobs are also set to return after injury.

Todd was bitterly disappointed with the performance of some of his senior players in midweek. Nicky Summer-bee's starting place could also be under threat should the manager decide to move Lewis Emanuel back into midfield.

Todd said: "Let's not get carried away with the loss of one game. We're all disappointed but prior to that we had gone three games undefeated so the players have shown they are capable of getting results.

"We've got to start again now and the only way we will forget about it is if we get a good performance tomorrow. We can't afford to let another game go by in the manner of the other night.

"Chesterfield have started well and should have beaten Rotherham in the cup. But I'm more concerned with how we pick ourselves up and bounce back."
