A MILLIONAIRE'S dream wedding party turned into a nightmare when he woke to find his luxury marquee under three feet of water.
Kildwick businessman Ali Shan had spent £35,000 on hire costs and a further £80,000 on equipment, flowers, stage and decorations.
He had been planning his big day with his partner, Shaneen, for the past six months.
The pair were married two weeks ago at the bride's parents' house in Bradford, and planned to hold the party in a marquee near Mr Shan's Airedale House mansion on Saturday.
The marquee was erected in an adjacent field, but as final preparations got under way on Friday morning, it became obvious the couple would have to make alternative arrangements as the weather took a turn for the worse.
The heavens opened and soon the massive tent was engulfed by water.
Family friend and party guest Geoff Dunn approached Skipton's Hanover International Hotel to try to save the day. He was in luck and the hotel agreed to cater for 2,000 guests, who came from as far away as Pakistan.
Everything was transported to the hotel, apart from the marquee carpets which were ruined.
Mr Shan's brother, Sajad Ali, told the Herald: "We were all upset and the women were crying when the marquee started flooding, but my brother and his wife had a fantastic party in the end."
