Despite very wet conditions 26 teams took part in the sixth annual Danny McGowan Golf Day in aid of Manorlands on Friday at Bingley St Ives.

The winning team of I Bradbury, D Bairstow, M Jowett and R Sunderland scored 89 points.

The organiserws would like to thank St Ives Officials and Staff for hosting the event andthe social evening and all the team and individuals and companies who donated prizes.

The final sum raised is expected to be about £4,500.

Keighley - Adele Mitchell and Elaine Pearson were playing in the Ladies British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Alwoodley on Wednesday and Thursday this week. They hoped to be among the best 40 scores over 36 holes to qualify for the final round today (Friday).

The Ladies played for Mrs. Holmes Prize on Tuesday. The competition was a stableford format with 7/8 handicap allowance. Division 0-18: Barbara Marklew. Division 19-27: Olive Whitmarsh. Division 28-36: Janet O'Neill.

Silsden - The Silsden Lady Captain's day was held on Sunday in magnificent weather, and was well attended as a result.

Kate who played extremely well, with some superb putts from long range to take first prize.

Results: 1 Mrs Kate Parker 86-18-68; 2 Mrs Denise Edwards 93-20-73; 3 Mrs Shirley Twigg 91-18-73.

Riddlesden - The men's Fourball Better Ball Invitation Competitionwas won by the club's head greenkeeper Bob Taylor and his partner A Kkais (Silsden) with 54.

In second place were Steve Bradshaw and C Smith (Clayton) with 55 on a countback from David Jaques and P Drinkall (Settle). In fourth place were Chris Clark and Keith Jowett (Keighley)

The Seniors Cup was won by Trevor Clark 63-12-51, a nett score less than his age. Second placed Brian Brooksbank went one better with a score of 67-13-54, a gross score lower then his age. Third was Joe Mancakas with 72-16-56.

August Medal results - Division One: 1 Jow Sugden 70-12-58, 2 Jeremy Goodwin 66-8-58. Division Two: 1 Gerry Pearson 74-14-60, 2 George Hegarty 75-13-62. Division Three: 1 Paul Hook 78-19-59, 2 Jon Gunnell 81-21-60.

The Ladies Section Medal was won by Mrs Pat Lane 98-29-69 with Mrs Betty Dale in second place with 93-22-71. The gross prize of the Jubilee Trophies was won by Mrs Christine Heron 83-17-66. The best nett was Mrs Eileen Cropper 96-26-70.

Mrs Roz Bottomley won the August Shield with 33 points.

Bracken Ghyll - Despite the inclement weather the competition schedule has proceeded uninterrupted. Another Honours Board competition was settled last weekend when the Sutcliffe Salver Mixed Greensome was won by Carole Howorth and Graham Abbey, from Kaye and Stephen Winterburn with John Williams and Gunilla Vriesendorp-Williams in third place.

n Keighley are hoping to play their final match in the Bradford & District Scratch League's Second Division tonight (Friday), after recent bad weather caused a series of postponements.

But Shipley managed to play Bingley St Ives on Wednesday, chalking up a 5-3 win which ensures that Keighley are already promoted to the 1st Division from where they were relegated a year ago.

Skipton need six points from Keighley tonight to remain in the 2nd Division and condemn Bradford to relegation.
