Folk with a rock tinge comes to Glusburn Institute on October 23 in the shape of the Demon Barber Roadshow.

The Barbers, led by Keighley singer-musician Damien Barber, perform soon after restarting their monthly residency at the Love Apple in Bradford.

The band regularly tries out new material, arrangements and improvisations as part of three-hour shows at the Great Horton Road venue.

The blend of rock instruments and fiddle, concertina and harmonica make for a "dynamic and forward-looking" twist on traditional folk music.

Supporting the Barbers will be established acts and up-and-coming performers whose styles take in traditional and contemporary, blues and bluegrass, poetry and protest.

The season opens on October 10 with a "mega session launch party" featuring Martin Simpson, Emily Druce, Steve Jones, Francis Kempster and Steve Segar.

Future support acts include Keighley band The Pipers, Ben Harker and Emily Weygang (November 14), Denny Bartley and local folk performer Laura Hockenhull (December 19), folk comedian Sid Kipper (January 16), Martha Tilston Trio (April 10) and Haworth singer Fay Hield (June 12).

The launch party runs 5-10.30 pm, and normal sessions 7-10.30pm. Tickets £6 adults, £3 concessions, on the door.

Support for the October 23 show in Glusburn has not yet been revealed. Tickets cost £7 adults, £5 concessions, from Forget Me Not, Cross Hills, or by phoning 01535 630223.
