Bradford Park Avenue face the proverbial banana skin tie as they enter this season's FA Cup competition and it will be no comfort to them being drawn at home.

The squad are looking forward to the second qualifying round game after a confidence-boosting 4-1 win at Stalybridge Celtic in the Conference North last Saturday. The visitors are Squires Gate from the top division of the North West Counties League.

"You can't take anything for granted in the FA Cup, that is why it is a magical competition steeped in romance," said Avenue manager Carl Shutt.

"We will be a scalp for them and they will be raising their game and relishing the challenge. It is a pity we have got a home tie because I'm sure the lads prefer to play away because we tend to get better results."

Shutt released Carl Colley before last Saturday's game but welcomed the previous season's leading scorer Steve Oleksewycz back from injury. The manager shuffled his pack and got the desired effect.

A cloud was lifted and the squad have trained hard this week in anticipation of the cup match. After such a good win the next game could not come around quickly enough and they are excited about a possible cup run.

"We need to win, simple as that," said Oleksewycz, who was on target in his comeback from a groin injury at Stalybridge.

"Everyone at the club knows how important a cup run is and how much income it can generate after last season." Avenue reached the first-round proper and entertained Bristol City at Horsfall Stadium.

"The club has been buzzing this week, especially after Saturday's win, but the FA Cup is always a big thrill no matter what round it is. We know Squires Gate will be thinking the same and will be pumped up.

"They will have played a few games in the competition already to reach this stage and will be high on confidence. They will have looked at our home record and will no doubt be fancying their chances.

"The manager has told us to start our home games positively, he is very keen on us reversing this trend of being poor at home. I think we definitely need to do that tomorrow so as not to give the opposition any encouragement. The FA Cup is massive to this club."
