Keighley CRICKET ACADEMY has put the district's kidney unit well on the way to buying a pioneering patient monitor.
They presented a cheque for £1,150 to the Renal Unit at St Luke's Hospital in memory of Zatoon Kamal, who was a dialysis patient on the unit but sadly died in January this year. She often helped with catering at the annual charity match between the Academy's Celebrity XI and Keighley Cougars and she wanted to raise money for the unit which helped her during her illness.
Her husband, Sarwar, played in the match and the money raised will go towards buying a Critline III monitor which checks the blood flow in patients during dialysis treatment. It will help spare some patients unnecessary surgery.
Consultant, Dr Robin Jeffreys said: "We are very grateful for the support of the Cricket Academy, th money will mean a lot to other dialysis paatients on the unit."
