POLICE are still in the dark over the identity of this woman (pictured) whose body was found in a stream near Penyghent last week.

She was discovered shortly before 11.30am on Monday September 20 by walkers, 30 yards from the entrance to Sell Gill Hole.

Appeals and inquiries have so far yielded little clues as to her identity and officers are still awaiting the results of forensic tests.

Chief Insp Tad Nowakowski said: "We still don't know who she is and how she died."

He said the investigation involved liaising with governments and consulates oversees, working with other forces within this country to look at their missing person's files and making contact with clothing companies.

Tomorrow (Saturday) house-to-house inquiries will be carried out in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

A mobile police station will be set up and witness appeal leaflets will be distributed.

The dead woman is described as possibly of oriental extraction, aged between 20 and 30 and around four feet 11-and-a-half inches in height.

She had brown eyes and brown hair cut just below shoulder length.

She was wearing a fern green pair of Marks and Spencer size 12 jeans and possible a short sleeved T-shirt with green and white hoops.

Chief Insp Nowakowski said: "We are still desperate to find out who she is."
