EXTRA time goals from Tom Applebee and James Nettleton booked Silsden's place in the first round proper of the FA Vase.

After suffering the disappointment of defeat in their FA Cup replay against Holker Old Boys in midweek the Cobbydale side bounced back against Harrogate Railway at the weekend.

The Railway men had certainly pulled the strings in the first half but they failed to take their chances.

Both teams were determined to grind down the opposition in a gritty opening period, but the game came to life after 60 minutes when manager Andy Geary brought on Peter Hanson and Jonathan Luckett-Farley.

They gave the tiring team much needed impetus.

Mick Rhodes missed a second half penalty and within minutes it looked as if the game could be snatched from their grasp when Harrogate striker Whellans rifled a shot past goalkeeper Martin Foulger.

Minutes later Peter Hanson crossed from the left and the visitors striker Phil Turner headed into his own net to put Silsden back on level terms and despite a couple of scares the game went into extra time.

The Cobbydalers had to dig dep to shake off the effects of their early season run of 13 games, including five FA Cup ties, but they managed to take advantage of space on the wings.

Appelbee and Luckett-Farley forged a dynamic partnership to terrorise the tiring Harrogate defence.

Applebee finally beat the keeper to give Silsden the edge and three minutes later Nettleton chipped the keeper after they had run the Railwaymen's defence to a virtual standstill and secured their place in the first round proper of the competition.

One again there was a bumper crowd at Cougar Park with an attendance of 252 people urging the team to continue their cup heroics.

In Monday's draw Silsden were rewarded with a plum home tie against Silsden Tadcaster Albion on Saturday, October 23.

On Saturday they are at home to Flixton in the league.
