Three members of a Bradford housing trust board, two of them tenants, have been dismissed.

North Bradford Community Housing Trust chairman Jim Stevenson was ousted, along with his deputy Grahame Beacher and independent board member Khalil Rehman.

The trust was also taken into supervision by the umbrella Bradford Community Housing Trust Group, to "maintain the stability" of the board.

The decision has outraged Mr Beacher, who said he was not given the chance to defend himself at the meeting which took the decision, and heard about his dismissal from Mr Stevenson.

Mr Beacher, 67, who lives in York House, Thorpe Edge, said: "We have had no explanation; Jim told me we have been dismissed from the board. It was a decision reached in secret."

Mr Beacher, who served on the North Bradford CHT for more than two years, said: "We have got in the way of what the BCHT group wanted to steamroller through. Things that we did not agree with irritated the Group board.

"The area board has been placed under supervision by the Group board with no explanation.

"I feel it is a total injustice what is happened. At the same time it sets me free to have another look, from a different perspective, at how the housing stock transfer has turned out.

"I want to find out how this happened and why. I want to know why I have not even been informed by telephone or writing from the board."

The BCHT Group board, which has six subsidiary area trusts, said the three directors were given the right of reply to the decision, on factual issues, within five working days.

BCHT Group board chairman Martin Smith said the decision to remove three members from the North Bradford CHT was unanimous.

Geraldine Howley, chief executive of the BCHT Group, added: "We believe the group Board has taken positive action to ensure the stability of North BCHT, and of the Group as a whole."

Tim Doyle, executive director of North Bradford CHT, added: "I am pleased the Group board has acted decisively to ensure our tenants get the best possible service from the Trust and that its reputation with customers, partners and staff is maintained."

The Group has appointed Dave Procter, Ralph Hewitt and Andrew Ward to the board of North Bradford CHT.
