Paul Weller fans are expected to camp out overnight tomorrow to ensure they get tickets for the rock star's Keighley concert.

The tickets will go on sale on Sunday at 7am, three hours earlier than planned, to meet the expected huge demand.

Hundreds of fans swamped potential ticket outlets the moment the November 5 gig at Keighley's Victoria Hall was revealed, even though booking details were not given.

Many calls were received from fans from outside the area who had been unable to get tickets for Weller concerts in other parts of the country.

Concert promoter Roger Nowell said he had phone calls from many people he had not seen for years, asking for tickets. He has advised even his friends to get to Keighley outdoor shop Speak's early, as it is the only outlet for the tickets.

Roger said: "After news of his visit was revealed Speak's couldn't handle the amount of calls that came in. Staff have even been offered bribes to get people tickets."

Tickets cost £28.50, including a £3.50 booking fee, from Speak's at 3-11 Lawkholme Crescent, next to Keighley bus station. Speak's spokesman Peter Wowk said: "Tickets will be sold to personal callers only, with a maximum of four per person.

"To give people in the town a fair crack of the whip, tickets will not be sold over the phone. We have had hundreds of inquiries from all over the country."

Paul, known as the Modfather, is playing Victoria Hall as a warm-up for a national tour beginning the following day.

He is likely to bring his full nine-piece band to the Keighley venue and play his entire tour set, featuring songs from his entire career.

These will range from Jam classics and Style Council chart hits to solo material and covers from his latest acclaimed album Studio 150.

The support band will be Keighley trio The Pipers, who tonight launch their latest CD, Alien, with a concert at the New Variety Club in Russell Street, Keighley.

Weller was last due to appear in Keighley in 1979 but the concert was cancelled along with four others across the country.

East Morton man Roger Nowell, who works as Weller's guitar technician, said anyone who turned up on November 5 with a ticket for the 1979 gig would get into Victoria Hall for free. As well as playing in the band Skeletal Family, Roger runs Northern Concerts Promotions, which brought rock band Ocean Colour Scene to Keighley in the summer.

He has booked Dr Feelgood to play the New Variety Club on December 2, with tickets already on sale at Speak's for £10.
