A Skipton woman had to take cover under a farm vehicle after a bull escaped from a field while she was out cycling.

The drama unfolded after Claire Gane rode out of Stirton with the intention of crossing the A65 to cycle back along the canal to Skipton.

Mrs Gane, who was cycling on her own, said: "I got to the main road, but as I approached it I saw all this traffic to the left and right queued up."

She was about to make her way across the road when a farmer started shouting at her to get back as there was a bull on the loose.

Mrs Gane, who lives on Raikeswood Road, found shelter underneath a parked Land Rover. From there she could see the bull through the vehicle's windows.

"It was just running around and jumping up and down and just being frisky and uncontrollable. It was a good job the Land Rover was there. I couldn't jump into a field because there was barbed wire," she told the Herald.

She added that as someone who was quite scared of animals anyway she was now smore apprehensive about going out on her bike.
